Introduction to 3-D Design

Today in class the students were introduced to the exciting world of 3D design, understanding that Computer Aided Design (CAD) is rampantly used in the creation of our technological world.  We will be moving into the computer lab for the next 10 days to immerse ourselves into an application called ProDesktop.  Everyone will begin with basic sketches, and ultimately design their own original digital camera as a culminating activity.

Graffitti Wall for the Evolution of Technology

Today we used our completed Technology Satisfies Needs charts for a collaborative class activity.  Each student participated magnificently as we went up and down the rows, and then had children raising their hands high with more to say. Students were up and about as they documented their answers on the Graffitti Wall on the front board. We made our way through the chart, and through history to the present day. 

We drew conclusions at the end of class understanding that the rate of innovation is increasing with the passage of time.  We spoke about the idea that as communication became easier people could more readily share their ideas for inventions.  This increased exchange of information has allowed people to become more creative, productive and efficient.

Technology Satisfies Our Needs

We have been working on our understanding of the Evolution of Technology. In and out of class, we are working to complete the Technology Satisfies Needs chart for Friday 2/10. On Friday, we will create a Graffiti Wall in the classroom as all students will contribute by sharing information from their chart. Charts are to be completed from your own previous knowledge, the reading from class called “A Short History of Design and Technology”, as well as the internet. If you missed class, please se me for a copy of the reading as it is not posted here on our site.

If you missed class today please print a copy of the document called Science and/or Technology. Categorize the itemized list by choosing the label “S” for Science, “T” for Technology or the word “Both” if through discussion examples are given to support both areas. Use the basic understanding that Science is the study of the natural world, and Technology is the study of the man-made world.

Compare your answers with a student who confidently checked their answers as we reviewed them today in class. Store this document for reference in your Technology Folder.
